Nigeria’s headline inflation rate declined to 14.63 per cent in September 2026, down from 15.39 per cent recorded in August, according to the National Bureau of Statistics

The NBS disclosed this in its Consumer Price Index report released on Thursday, indicating a slight slowdown in the country’s year-on-year inflation rate.

However, food inflation remained almost unchanged, rising marginally to 19.59 per cent in September from 19.57 per cent in August.

The latest figures show that headline inflation has remained around 15 per cent throughout the year, continuing to pose economic challenges for households and policymakers.

The development comes ahead of Nigeria’s next general election, scheduled for 2027, as President Bola Tinubu seeks re-election amid ongoing concerns over the cost of living.
