The Lagos State Government has begun a 35-day rehabilitation of damaged sections of the Eti-Osa-Lekki-Epe Expressway, warning motorists to expect traffic disruptions during the exercise.

The repairs, which commenced on Thursday, October 15, 2026, will cover sections of the road from Bonny Camp to Admiralty Way Junction and areas around Victoria Garden City (VGC).

The Governor’s Special Adviser on Infrastructure, Olufemi Daramola, announced the development at a stakeholders’ meeting organised by the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure.

He said traffic diversions would be introduced to ease congestion and ensure the safety of motorists and other road users during the rehabilitation.

Daramola urged residents, businesses and motorists to cooperate with the government, particularly as traffic is expected to increase ahead of the festive season.

He said the government engaged stakeholders to obtain their views and incorporate their feedback into the planning and execution of infrastructure projects.

The government explained that the rehabilitation was aimed at improving road safety and easing movement along the busy corridor, which connects residential communities, businesses and major industrial facilities.

The expressway provides access to the Lekki Free Zone, Dangote Refinery, Dangote Fertiliser Factory and Lekki Deep Sea Port. It also serves educational institutions such as Pan-Atlantic University and Lagos Business School.

At the meeting, Chairman of the Victoria Island and Ikoyi Residents Association, Prince Akin Fadoju, called for improved drainage to address flooding in the area.

Other stakeholders urged the government to deploy traffic officials throughout the construction period, maintain alternative routes and provide adequate security for road users.

Daramola said the state had already reconstructed or rehabilitated 69.44 kilometres of the expressway using concrete and flexible pavement.

The latest exercise forms part of the government’s broader efforts to improve road infrastructure along the rapidly developing Lekki-Epe corridor.
