The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Lagos State for the 2027 election, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has assured traditional rulers in Ikeja Division of an inclusive government if elected, while charging them to sustain peace and stability in their domains.

Hamzat, who is currently the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, gave the assurance during an engagement with Baales and chiefs from Ikeja Division in Lagos, as part of ongoing consultations ahead of the 2027 general election.

The meeting, which drew traditional leaders from across the division, served as a platform for the traditional institution to bare their minds on issues affecting their communities and their welfare. A major concern raised by some of the Baales and chiefs was the need for improved welfare and remuneration for members of the traditional institution, given their critical roles in community leadership, conflict resolution and grassroots development.

In their remarks, the traditional rulers called on the APC candidate to prioritize the welfare of traditional institutions if elected governor, stressing that better support would enhance their capacity to effectively discharge their responsibilities at the grassroots.

Responding to their concerns, Hamzat allayed their fears and pledged that his administration would adopt an inclusive approach to governance that gives due recognition to traditional institutions in the state's development agenda.

He assured them that traditional rulers would remain integral to governance, particularly in areas of community mobilization, security and grassroots development, noting that their proximity to the people makes them indispensable partners in progress.

Hamzat also urged the traditional leaders to continue promoting peace, security and order in their respective communities, emphasizing that sustainable development thrives in a peaceful environment.

He further appealed to the Baales and chiefs to mobilize support for the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 general election, urging them to work assiduously to secure substantial votes for the party across their communities.

Earlier in his remarks, the Lagos State APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, charged the traditional rulers to participate actively in the forthcoming election and collaborate with the party to ensure that the dividends of democracy reach the grassroots.

Ojelabi emphasized the importance of grassroots engagement in strengthening democratic participation and bridging the gap between government policies and the people at the community level.

The engagement was attended by members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), representatives of the APC Campaign Council and other party stakeholders.

The meeting forms part of sustained efforts by the APC and its governorship candidate to strengthen relations with traditional institutions and consolidate support ahead of the 2027 Lagos State governorship election.
