The President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Dr Patrice Motsepe, has congratulated Nigeria's U-17 women's national team, the Flamingos, following their historic qualification for the final of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Morocco.

Motsepe praised the team for making Africa and CAF proud, describing their achievement as a significant milestone for Nigerian and African football.

The CAF president is expected to travel to Rabat, Morocco, to watch the Flamingos take on Japan in the final scheduled for Saturday, November 7, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. local time.

Nigeria secured their place in the final after defeating Brazil 3-1 in Wednesday's semi-final encounter, reaching the competition's final for the first time in their history.

The victory also marked a historic achievement for African football, as the Flamingos became the first team from the continent to reach the final of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup.

Previously, Ghana finished third at the 2012 edition, while Nigeria claimed the bronze medal in 2022. Both countries secured third place after defeating Germany in their respective bronze-medal matches.

The Flamingos will now aim to make further history by becoming the first African nation to win the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup when they face Japan in Saturday's final.
