Nigerian Army Rewards Soldier ₦500,000 For Rejecting Kidnapper’s Bribe
Terwase reportedly apprehended the suspect following an attempted escape but refused to accept the money allegedly offered in exchange for the suspect's release.

The Nigerian Army has rewarded a soldier, Private Utim Terwase, with ₦500,000 for rejecting an alleged ₦500,000 bribe offered by a suspected notorious kidnapper in Plateau State.
Terwase reportedly apprehended the suspect following an attempted escape but refused to accept the money allegedly offered in exchange for the suspect's release.
Rather than compromise his duty, the soldier handed the suspect over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and prosecution.
The cash reward was presented on behalf of the General Officer Commanding, 3 Division of the Nigerian Army and Commander of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), Major General Maxwell Dangana, by the Commander of Sector 6, OPEP, Colonel Philimon Malgwi.
Speaking during the presentation, Dangana commended the soldier for demonstrating integrity, discipline and professionalism in the discharge of his duties.
He described Terwase's action as an example of the honesty, accountability and commitment expected of military personnel.
The GOC noted that the soldier's refusal to accept the bribe reflected the Nigerian Army's core values and deserved recognition.
He also urged officers and soldiers serving under Operation Enduring Peace to emulate Terwase's conduct and remain committed to their responsibilities.
Dangana explained that the recognition was part of efforts to promote ethical behaviour, accountability and professionalism among troops carrying out security operations.
The ₦500,000 reward, which matches the amount the soldier reportedly rejected, highlights the Army's commitment to recognising personnel who demonstrate integrity and dedication to duty.
