Super Falcons Get $100,000 Each as President Tinubu Fulfils Promise

The National Sports Commission disclosed this in a statement on Monday, confirming that the Federal Government had fulfilled its financial commitment to the team after they secured their record-extending 10th continental title.

Players of Nigeria’s senior women’s football team, the Super Falcons, have received the naira equivalent of $100,000 each, while their coaches and officials received $50,000 each, completing the financial rewards promised by President Bola Tinubu following their victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The National Sports Commission disclosed this in a statement on Monday, confirming that the Federal Government had fulfilled its financial commitment to the team after they secured their record-extending 10th continental title.

The cash payment is the final component of the reward package announced by Tinubu in recognition of the team's achievement.

The players had previously received title documents for their three-bedroom apartments in Abuja, as well as certificates of the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger.

Reacting to the development, NSC Chairman, Shehu Dikko, expressed appreciation to the President for fulfilling his promise and recognising the contributions of the players and their officials.

“The Super Falcons made Nigeria proud, and Mr President has honoured his commitment to them in full. This means a great deal to the team and to Nigerian sports.

“We sincerely thank Mr President for recognising their achievement and directing that they received everything promised to them in record time,” Dikko said.

The commission explained that the payment was made through the collaboration of the NSC and the Ministries of Finance, Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, and Housing and Urban Development.

Dikko noted that the prompt fulfilment of the reward package represented a departure from previous experiences in which Nigerian athletes had to wait several years before receiving benefits promised to them.

“Some of our sports heroes endured years of waiting for promises to be fulfilled. President Tinubu has shown that things can be done differently.

“Our athletes can take encouragement from this and prepare to represent Nigeria with confidence that their efforts are appreciated and commitments made to them will be honoured,” he added.

The Super Falcons clinched their 10th WAFCON title in July 2025 after staging a remarkable comeback to defeat hosts Morocco 3-2 in the final played in Rabat.

The Nigerian side had trailed by two goals before fighting back to secure the championship.

Following their triumph, Tinubu hosted the team at a presidential reception on July 28, 2025, where he announced a cash reward of $100,000 for each player and $50,000 for every member of the technical crew.

He also promised the players three-bedroom apartments and the OON national honour.

The latest development follows a similar reward package given to Nigeria's senior women's basketball team, D’Tigress, whose players received the naira equivalent of $100,000 each in September 2026 after winning their fifth consecutive Women’s AfroBasket title in 2025.

Their officials also received $50,000 each, while the players were presented with documents for three-bedroom apartments and OON certificates in February 2026.

Similarly, the Federal Government presented housing title documents, confirmation of land allocations in Abuja and national honours to members of the Super Eagles in December 2025 following their silver-medal finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.

The latest payment to the Super Falcons brings to completion the financial reward component of the President’s promise to the team.
